Humanitarian Visa

Online Registration

A humanitarian visa is often provided in individual circumstances and is tailored for different humanitarian needs, including those of refugees, victims of human trafficking, and victims of domestic violence.

Refugee Quota Family Reunification

New Zealand welcomes former refugees who have settled in the nation to sponsor their immediate family members, allowing family reunification under the Refugee Quota Family Reunification Policy. This policy permits the sponsorship of siblings, children, or parents.

Sponsorship Requirements:

The sponsor must have,

  • A granted residence in New Zealand as a mandated refugee
  • An immediate family member (sibling, parent, child) of the applicant
  • Attended an interview with a Refugee Quota Branch immigration officer & was deemed “acceptable”

Applicant Eligibility:

  • Must have an acceptable sponsor (as described above)
  • Must have been declared on the sponsor’s original documentation or follow a special procedure
  • Must meet character & certain health requirements
  • Must convince an immigration officer that the circumstances of separation from their sponsor are credible and that reunification will have a positive effect on the sponsor
  • Must demonstrate potential for successful settlement in New Zealand

Refugee Family Support

Beyond the immediate family reunion policy, New Zealand provides the Refugee Family Support Policy, which has a wider meaning of “family” and a yearly sponsorship quota.

This policy allows family members who do not qualify under other criteria to be sponsored. Sponsors will be selected through a two-tier process. Proposed incoming family members must be recognized and registered. The number of family members that can be processed at any one time and the number of registrations are both limited.

Victims of People Trafficking

New Zealand offers a path to residency for victims of human trafficking who are unable to return home owing to danger, risk of re-trafficking, considerable social stigma, or financial hardship as a result of their trafficking experience.

Victims of Domestic Violence

Individuals seeking residence in New Zealand as a result of a relationship that ended due to domestic abuse may also be considered. This occurs when they are unable to return home due to stigma, a lack of financial resources, or other consequences of the violence.

At Silver Fern International, we are dedicated to delivering compassionate and comprehensive assistance with all humanitarian visa applications. Our professional team will guide you through every step of the process to ensure your safety and security in New Zealand.
